CLEVELAND - Two men were arrested on Saturday in the shooting death of a stroke victim who was hit by a bullet when he went outside his home in a wheelchair to get fresh air, police said.
Police Lt. Thomas Stacho said Nathan Johnson, 26, turned himself in a police station and gave authorities information that led investigators to Eric Carson, 27, surrendered at his home. Both men live in the same neighborhood as shooting victim Daniel Lewis.
They have not been formally charged.
Johnson drove a Ford Contour from Carson who fired a bullet at around 6 pm Friday, police said. Stacho said Carson was intended for a rival drug dealer, but the outside shooting returned the hood of another car and leaving Lewis.
Lewis’ son, Charles, said his father was beaten in the chest. Lewis, a retiree greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority supervisor, died at a hospital about an hour after the shooting.
It’s a tragedy, a man who pays his own business. Speaker sitting outside to enjoy the weather and two fools to come, and as a result he is dead,†said Mayor Frank Jackson, who went to the home of Lewis after the shooting. It’s absurd. Those responsible will pay for their foolish act.
Family members said Lewis had a stroke two years ago and have returned to their home in September. He has lived there since 1974.
Charles Lewis said the family has been urging his father to go out and get some fresh air.
At last he was going to get some air, said Charles Lewis. He should have remained inside and was stuffy.
